District of Paschim Bardhaman was formed on 7 April 2017 after bifurcation of the erstwhile Bardhaman district as the 23rd district of West Bengal.

Paschim Bardhaman is a district where antiquity and modernity has blended in the form of culture and industry. We are proud to have the steel power houses in IISCO Steel Company and Durgapur Steel Plant at the same time; district is blessed with microliths of Birbhanpur.

Damodar and Ajay with their sisters in Barakar, Tumni and Nuni adorn the district and the first two defines the geographical boundary of the district. This district has been blessed with abundant deposits of coal and has thus earned its place of pride amongst the areas that the country depends on. The Raniganj Coalfield boasts of being the first coal mines in India and the Barakar Steel Works in Kulti, the predecessor of today’s IISCO Steel Plant is the first steel plant in India.

The district comprises of two subdivisions: Asansol Sadar and Durgapur. There are 8 blocks under these two subdivisions – Salanpur, Barabani, Jamuria and Raniganj blocks (in Asansol SD) and Andal, Pandabeswar, Faridpur-Durgapur and Kanksa in Durgapur Sub division.

District Administration is aware of the priorities that lay ahead and assures every citizen of standing by in its hours of need. Be it Covid or be it the fury of monsoon, we always pledges to deliver our best through all circumstances as a united team.
